There are four levels of Exotic Animal Collections:
Level 1. Exhibit
Level 2. Menagerie
Level 3. Zoo
Level 4. Royal Zoo/Menagerie
The first three will be available to all players, the fourth is a Research topic presently under development.
Since 821 is the year of the exotic animal, each Trade Town and International City wishes to commission an Exhibit (a list of these will be made available). The first Clan to build an Exhibit in a particular Town/City is effectively the Exotic Animal Curator for that Town/City. A Clan may have one Exhibit commissioned by a Town/City and likewise, so can each Town and City have but one Exhibit. Once the Exhibit is built, the Town/City will ask for the next level – IF the curator has at least 6 different Exotic Animal species available.
0716 (Debz) is the overseeing Curator of this project and is in charge, along with the GM, of collating and publishing in Tribe News the present status of each Town/City and the income of the resident curator.
Each enclosure may house a single species (see notes below). The same animal species may not be housed in more than one enclosure.
Enclosure = New Valid Building. For example, if you have 25 Falcons, 6 Bears and I Tiger you will need 1+2+1 = 4 Enclosures or Enc4.
Exotic Animals held by Clan units do not (at this stage) need Herding, feeding, water, or enclosures.
0263g1 has been created and is the code used when you transfer Exotic Animals to a City/Town Zoo using normal auto Transfer Orders.
Exhibit (and other Zoo structures) allows the breeding of exotic species at the Zoo site (conducted by the overall Zoo Curator). All Zoo animals breed at the end of Spring.
The base breeding rate will depend on the species and other usual breeding rate factors. It should not be expected to breed new exotic individuals every turn. Breeding rates are being developed at the moment and will not be ready/available for some time.
All Exotic Animals are available for Exhibits etc. Other exotic animals not listed by climate band below, such as those introduced at the Yáahl Animal Market, through other in-game special events, Research or by the GM in the future, are still eligible to be placed into a zoo. These may or may not be available from special hexes in a specific band. For example, as of 07 821, Falcon (25 per full enclosure), Bear (5 per full enclosure), Lion (5 per full enclosure), and Tiger (5 per full enclosure), are not found in Special Hexes.
Building your Exhibit will be done via GM Actions (as usual you will use 1263 to transfer Enclosure materials and likewise the animals contained therein). You also specify the Town/City you are building in. From here, each month a list of curators and the towns/cities they are curating with be published in Tribe News – this might be by means of a wiki link.
After a few Exhibits have been installed, the plan (for prestige, fun and role play) will be to also publish a list of the best rated Zoos in TribeNet. Your rating will depend on the number of Enclosures you have – full or partial, the variety of animals, your level of Zoology skill (a more minor factor) and the prestige of the Town/City (at this stage they all start at 1 but there will be future developments that change this).

To be developed as a Research Topic
Do I need to send a unit to the city hex when you want to build a level of zoo and/or take animals?
Yes, but once built, you are not required to retain a unit at the City/Town.
Do you have to send a unit to the city hex when you get new ones through breeding?
Yes. Once sent to the Town/City the Exotic Animals are no longer yours however, you will be eligible to receive any bred animals which must be collected by a unit from 0716 (the general Zoo Curator)
Do you manage/deliver/assign animals remotely from the constructing tribe?
No.
Are exotic animals delivered to the zoo recorded on the constructing tribes inventory?
No.
Or are they sent to usage and then exist only on the Zoo record spreadsheet (which each player keeps private records of and Debz (Clan 716) keeps the master sheet)?
Yes – but they are sent to the Curator’s unit for record keeping.
What happens to exotic animals that breed beyond the ability to put them in an enclosure? If I have 6 bears, what happens to the 6th one?
It returns to your Tribe (see above). Animals that breed at Zoo beyond enclosure capacity are kept by the Zoo (no enclosures required) until collected by player – enclosures are only required at Zoo and this is the only place they breed (Yaahl aside).
Can exotic animals be freely traded in the same manner as trading horses for example?
Yes.
Is there any plan to have a distinction between zoos at International NPC cities, and NPC trading towns?
Not at this stage.
Are you allowing zoos to be set up at cities that have arisen due to local support rules?
Not at this stage, would make things too unpleasantly organic.
Do exotic animals require provs/fodder/water etc.?
No.
Can we add special animal hexes (or whatever they are to be called) to the intelligence skill options, as it may be a real pain for people to re-scout their entire territories and that might offer an alternative?
Yes, the Special Hexes can be revealed through use of Intel. Exotic Animals wil be available through other means, but there is no getting around the virtues of some good old-fashioned Scouting.
Are some exotic animals rarer than others?
Yes, rarity will be defined by Zoo ownership (not player) and this will factor into the Clan Zoo “rating”.
1. Re Falcon anomaly – existing Falcons will be multiplied by 5 will fix this to bring them in line with other animals.
2. Silver/Coin payment – 0716 will need to show this in a separate transfer sheet using 1263 (see 0540 for how to do this) to the player.
